A grade II listed building dating from the very beginning of the 19th century, Covercote is thought to have served as a coach house to the stables and cart-house by the roadside in front, round about the time that Fanny Price and Edmund Bertram were raising their family at nearby Mansfield Park (see Newby Hall, below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both buildings, which give the village its name, would have serviced long-distance coach travellers along the valley highway. Later documents refer to Covercote as a dwelling-house and shop, possibly for local farm produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The house has been completely restored and re-furbished to the highest standards and quality, using environmentally-friendly methods and materials. The luxury kitchen, bathrooms and furniture, including dining tables and chairs, occasional tables, wardrobes, beds and side tables, were hand-crafted by Sylvanus<\/a>, a London-based master carpenter.
